Closet Continuity

Oh dear...does anyone else have the problem where the hangers in your closet turn into an awful mismash of:

  • hangers you stole from your mom when you went to college
  • dry cleaners
  • "do you want the hanger?" (AT EVERY STORE...)
and
  • a few pathetic attempts of trying to be organized?

Please, someone tell me it's not just me...

Because the end result usually looks something like this.

Now, there's nothing really wrong with this- my father would scold someone who purchased hangers.

"Why would anyone buy something that stores give out for free!"

I could just hear his voice in my head. Well, because it super duper bothered me! Call me anal, but I hated it. And let's not forget the fact that maybe only 10 of my hangers actually had the dips instead of the stupid fish hooks. I don't understand the whole fish hook things. Yes, let's stop your clothes from falling off the hanger by...letting them fall off the hanger?

I don't get it.

And, because i only had about 10 hangers with the dips, I had 1 hanger for all of my camisoles/tank tops. This usually resulted in a horrible jigsaw puzzle at 6am while getting ready for work. I'd waste time and energy trying to untangle all of them them all to get the one specific tank I wanted.

I've always wanted the sexy velvet ones they sell at Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls, but when I priced it out, it would have been over $60 to get the look I wanted and...velvet and dog hair doesn't tend to mix well...

Enter College Section at Wal-Mart. Thank you Wal-Mart!

I love the college section at Wal-Mart. It is great for finding all the weird stuff that you don't want to pay full price for. Even at Wal-Mart, 36 regular hangers not in the college section are listed at $29.00

In the college section, 18 hangers (with dips!) are $2.00

10 points for Emma!

I scopped up $6 in hangers and giddily came home to tackle my need for continuity.

I'm sorry, but $6 is a small price to pay for my closet not to be a pain in my ass.

Everyone, give me a sigh of relief for this small, but beautiful change.

  3. FYI - If you have those old metal hangers, you can take them to the dry cleaners to be RECYLED, just ask.... they were very nice about it, and I was happy to not put them in the landfill.
