Guest Room Progress!

Slowly, but surely, we are making progress in the guest room. I think my favorite thing about this room is that is a complete mix-match of stores, generations and texture. There's still a ton of things that I want to do to it, but I'll let you see where we are at right now.

This is the bed side of the room...obviously.

Here is a break down of the items in this picture:

  • The bed is an antique my mother in law got at an estate sale for $2
  • The quilt, shams and curtain are from Home Goods
  • The throw pillows and blanket are from Target
  • The comforter underneath the quilt is from Delia's. It's plain white and is supposed to be a duvet insert, but we don't have a duvet and it was on clearance for $15 so we went for it and put it under the quilt.
  • The side table and lamp are from IKEA.
  • The artwork was made by me in 8th grade. I won the art award that year off it and it hung in my home town's library for 5 years before I got it back so it has a special place in my heart.
  • The wrought iron humming birds are from JoAnns.

The little dresser we got off craigslist. We aren't sure if we are going to keep it wood- we may paint it if we end up changing this bed out for another one Nate's mom has been working on.

And then of course there is the super festive chevron runner we got at Home Goods.

Overall, I'm pleased with it. We need to hang up some more art work (although this house hates letting us hang stuff up. Plaster and hollow walls...awesome) and we'll of course accessorize it a bit more to warm it up. I'm also working on a curtain for the closet (which I've omitted on purpose because it's super secret)

And, since I closed the door so Seamus wouldn't jump on the bed, here is your dose of Seamus for the day. Seamus is also getting a hair cut today because his face is ridiculous...

Any weekend projects coming up?

  1. Oh, Seamus is adorable--what kind/s of dog is he? My Gable looks kinda like him only 4 times as big. Also, your guest room is looking great! I was going to say that first, but I got sidetracked by how cute your dog is....

    1. Hey Gretchen! Welcome to the family and thank you so much :)

Let me guess...do you have an Irish Wolfhound? We LOVE wolfies. We call them scruffy ponies and someday we will have one! haha, Seamus is a Blue Heeler/Irish Terrier Mix. You also made me realize I didn't post his after picture... I'll have to do that tomorrow :) You can see more of the pupplings over here... http://www.brokeasshome.com/2012/08/the-board-of-directors.html

Keep coming back, I love to get comments!

    2. Well, there you go--I love cattle dogs, and I love terriers! 4 times as big was probably an exaggeration....Gable's just 55 pounds, so not quite in Wolfhound territory :). The shelter called him an Old English Sheepdog, but he's clearly not really. Our best guess is that he's probably a Bergamasco or a Bergamasco cross, although they're really rare, so it's strange that he wound up in a shelter in that case. But I e-mailed the woman who runs the Bergamasco group and sent his pic, and she passed it around to other Bergamasco people and agreed that it seemed likely that he is, even though it's weird. Not sure if this link will work, since it's from facebook, but here he is: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/207488_1071928315216_8972_n.jpg

Long story when you ask what kind of dog he is--sorry! At any rate, I have you in my google reader now, so I'll definitely be checking back in :)

    3. Oh my goodness is he adorable or what! I completely understand...all three of our dogs were rescues and we really have no idea what any of them "actually" are. We just call them the butts. BridgiButt, ScruffyButt, and BabyButt.

I'm glad you like what we're doing enough to stay in tune. Happy to have you!

  2. Umm there is a cute little metal tree on that dresser and I think I might need one. Share the secret of where you got it?

    1. Hi Erin!

There are jewelry trees all over my house...problem with making jewelry as a side job is tons and tons of things that need a place to hang. I have 2 of these and 1 of the earring one that used to sit on my desk but one got adopted into this room. They are from Target. See them here: http://www.target.com/p/chirp-jewelry-tree/-/A-13711053
It says that they are no longer available but I know I saw one there the other day! :)

NateNate got me this one for our bedroom, http://www.target.com/p/jewelry-tree-3-5-x11-x10-25/-/A-12030522 and it's really pretty- just not great for long necklaces.

      Hope that helps!
