And a Roof over our Head!!

We went from having a 110 year old roof, exploded gutter and leaky windows to a totally fixed, lovely creature in 5 days.

It was kind of remarkable- I will do a full detailing of everything that went down, but let's just say this old lady looked like an old lady, and just like Joan Rivers she looks...less like an old lady.

Here is what she looked like the day we bought her.

She had moss growing out of the roof. That is seriously how bad it was. MOSS. You can see it growing under the upstairs window on your right. Also, there was a hideous satellite dish hanging out up there. Then bippity, boppity, boop...

I know in pictures it doesn't look like much, but to me after walking up to the house every day for 9 months, the house looks bigger. They look off about 6 inches of shingles so having one layer makes it look so much larger and crisper to me.

Not having the satellite makes a big difference to me too. It was such a useless eyesore that we don't have to look at anymore.

The new windows have made a huge difference already too. We have gotten used to sleeping with like 15 quilts to try and stay warm at night, but we've actually been warm enough that we've stopped running the heat as high at night.

Have you guys made any changes to the bones of your house lately?

  1. Yay for a new roof and windows! We bought our house a year ago, and it shocked us how many things we'll have to fix/replace that aren't just for looks. Windows, new furnace, blow in new attic/wall insulation, etc etc. All those things that no one will notice but make all the difference. :)

  4. We got a new roof in November and some new windows in January...they do make SUCH a difference. Even though it's a big expense, I feel good knowing that the money is going into improving the integrity of our home. I don't feel guilty about that type of spending. Your house looks great with the new roof!

  5. Roof is most important part of house that make it beautiful as well as strong that protect us from many worst circumstances. These circumstances may happen due to bad weather, so it is very important to make it strong enough by repairing or maintaining. It is not easy task to do, so I got repaired my roof top with the help of Window and Door Roofing Company (http://www.windowanddoorguys.com/roofing.php) They really made my house beautiful and strong from exterior view as well as inside the home.
