OMG THERE'S SOMETHING ON THE ROOF.

Yesterday I was greeted when I got home with a dog-headache. I mean, in the dogs' defense, there were about 12-15 guys up on our roof. But I swear, Bridget was convinced that there were human size squirrels terrorizing her roof.

Let me break it down for you;

Seamus was oblivious (as he usually is- that drunk...)
Teagan was hiding underneath blankets barking every few minutes trying to seem like a badass.
Bridget was patrolling the house completely alert barking at the top of her lungs.

Nate and I were laying on the couch wondering when they were just going to get used to it and shut up.

In Bridget's defense, there were kind of human squirrels on her roof, as our new roof started getting put up yesterday!!! (and the peasant's rejoiced)

It was kind of amazing how much crap they were taking off of the roof- and then even more amazing when you realized that was only about half of the roof. Our house has 4 layers of shingles on it! YUCK! And you see those wood planks going across?

That, my friends, is what a 108 year old roof look like.

Gross, right?!

They're doing the other half of the roof today, the porch and cleanup on Wednesday. I am very excited about adding the curb appeal with the new gutters and windows too. As, after all, curb appeal is the name of the game this year. Curb and Yard! Woot, woot!

I must say though, we did get some sideways looks from some neighbors, "those darn kids moved in to that house and now they're causing a ruckus!"

Damn right I am. Equity- FOOLS.

Have you guys started your spring projects?

  1. I think the 108-year-old roof is awesome! Can they salvage any of the wood to repurpose? Sort of a cool historical thing about your home.

  2. We just had our roof done 2 weeks ago! I haven't posted about it yet though cause I'm too much of a wimp to go take pictures of it. The wind is still so cold! We were lucky because the metal roof we chose could go right over top of the existing shingles so no mess! I did get to experience the dog headache part though.... yay. It was worth it though! So glad not to have to worry about leaks ever again! Good luck with the rest of your roofing!

    1. Oooh, Metal!! I really, really wanted a metal roof but we just couldn't swing it this time. I didn't even know you could put metal over shingles- that is good to know for next time!

  3. ooh, yes to repurposing some of the roof wood! Maybe have the roofers rain treats down into the yard for the dogs? ;)

  5. My big spring project this weekend will be painting the front door and the house numbers. Because for some reason when they painted the woodwork outside, they painted right over the house numbers... pizza guy was upset.

Once my mother is here we will start putting in the garden beds for my flowers and veggies. I tell you, playing in the dirt can be so cathartic. Yes - this means I get to keep the house. :P

    1. Oh, that sounds lovely! Zone 4 says not to plant until like June, so I still have a long way before I can do fun garden stuff!!
